Priority of access policy

This policy has been put in place to ensure families with a connection to the Shire of Nillumbik are not denied access to a preschool place at the expense of families with no Nillumbik connection. It is important to note families who cannot demonstrate a Nillumbik connection are not excluded from enrolment and attendance at a Nillumbik preschool as places will continue to be offered until all positions are filled.

If you want your child to attend your preschool of choice you must register them as soon as possible after they turn two years of age because preschool offers are based on application date. The priorities are as follows:

First priority
Deferrals who reside within the Nillumbik Shire with supporting documents.*
A child or immediate family member with a disability or additional needs (medical information required).

Second priority
Children who reside in the Shire of Nillumbik.
Children who have a sibling who has attended a specific Nillumbik preschool in the past.

Third priority
Deferrals with a connection to Nillumbik Shire with supporting documents.*
Connection to Nillumbik. *

Fourth priority
Families who reside outside the Shire who do not fit the priorities listed above may submit applications for preschools within Nillumbik. These applications will, however, be given lower priority and families are advised to enrol at a preschool within their own municipality.

*Supporting documents for deferrals: a letter from your maternal and child health nurse or three year old preschool teacher explaining the reasons for deferral.

*Connection to Nillumbik: parent employment and/or education within Nillumbik or whose child attends child care, Family Day Care or three-year-old preschool within the Shire.
