Four year old preschool is a one year program for children the year before they start school. It is subsidised by the Victorian government and fees are kept to a minimum to allow all children the opportunity to attend.
Preschool supports children's learning and development. Programs are provided by qualified, skilled and experienced early childhood professionals and are most effective when families are engaged and children's learning builds on their previous experiences, interests and strengths. Going to preschool is an important step for your child. It will help them learn skills that they will build on throughout their life.
Preschools are run by volunteer parent committees of management elected each year at an annual general meeting. They are licensed with the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development who monitors them regularly to ensure standards are maintained and subsidy conditions are met.
