Immunisation

The Nillumbik Community Health Service provides immunisation services on behalf of Nillumbik Shire Council. The service provides free immunisation for the recommended government immunisation schedule to guard against childhood diseases and recommends vaccines for adults.

Immunisation is a simple, safe and effective way of protecting your children against harmful infections before they come in contact with them in the community.

Immunisation uses the body's natural defence mechanism - the immune response- to build resistance to specific infections. The conditions that can be prevented by routine childhood immunisation include diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, poliomyelitis (polio), measles, mumps, rubella, Haemophilis influenza b (Hib), hepatitis B, meningococcal C disease and invasive pneumococcal disease.

Information about vaccine preventable diseases, including each disease, immunisation type and side effects (also in languages other than English), as well as a range of useful immunisation related topics can be found on the Victorian Government Health Information website.
