Child care

There are a number of different child care options in Nillumbik, including:

  • long day care
  • occasional care
  • family day care
  • outside school hours care
  • school holiday care

Choosing the right child care can be a difficult decision. Your decision will depend on your family's needs and the environment/service you feel most comfortable with. We encourage you to visit the service. For a list of these, go to our community directory.

As well as providing care, child care services provide an opportunity for your child to develop social, emotional and learning skills. To help you choose the right quality child care for your child we have developed a checklist that you can download from the link below.

For more information about child care options, financial assistance with the cost of care, how the quality of care is monitored, the difference between registered and approved care, fact sheets on child care and much more go to the Australian Government's My Child website.

Free childcare is available for parents who require respite care for their children for crisis reasons. This would include illness in the family, coping difficulties, short term crisis situations etc. For more information, contact Narelle Hart, Family & Children's Services on 9433 3135 Monday to Thursday or email Nillumbik Family & Children's Services.
