In-Home Family Mentoring Program

The In-Home Family Mentoring Program is designed for new parents with children under the age of six years who are experiencing challenges due to isolation, post natal depression, illness, disability or multiple birth.

The program matches parents with a volunteer mentor who provides one on one parenting support for approximately four hours a week for up to 12 months. Mentors assist parents to achieve specified goals such as increasing parenting confidence and connecting with other parents and other community networks. Mentors provide practical and emotional support to parents by being there to listen and to assist them to get to appointments, go out for a walk, shopping or providing information about local services. Families can refer themselves however are usually referred by their maternal child health nurse or other health professionals.
