Knit One Save One challenge

The Panton Hill Primary School is participating in a campaign by Save The Children which targets schools to knit blankets to be distributed to mothers and children in health programs across India, Cambodia and Laos. The blankets will help a child stay warm and feel comfy and safe and could even help save a life. Save the Children are hoping the Australian community can knit 15,000 blankets for this campaign!

Panton Hill Primary School is teaching all interested children in their lunchtime craft club and before and after school program to learn how to knit so they can participate. They would love additional support from the community however, so if you know how to knit please join in the challenge by knitting a blanket or even a square or two to contribute to a blanket.

Guidelines for the blankets (or squares) are:

  • You must use 4mm knitting needles
  • You must use 8ply 100% pure wool
  • Each square should be about 20 centimetres by 20 centimetres (approximately 44 stitches wide, 88 rows high depending on tension used)
  • Each blanket is made up of 16 knitted squares with the final size around 80 centimetres by 80 centimetres.

Drop your blankets or squares off at the school (585 Kangaroo Ground St Andrews Road) and they will sew them together for you! You can also drop off blankets and squares at Living & Learning Panton Hill (18 Bishops Road). There may also be some spare wool and needles available at the primary school so if you need that assistance, please contact them.
