The Heart Foundation have produced the Eat Smart, Play Smart Manual to promote healthy eating and active play for children who attend outside school hours care. It assists services to serve healthier food, offer more active play opportunities, improve staff learning about nutrition and physical activity and improve children's cooking skills.
The Manual includes useful information on healthy eating and physical activity, current dietary guidelines, nutrition policy development, over 100 recipes, food safety and special dietary needs. It also features an afternoon tea wall planner, fun ideas for games and activities for children aged five to 12 years, cooking activities for children, information sheets for parents and carers and a list of useful resources.
The cost of the manual is $55 and includes GST, postage and handling. There is also a number of resources and fact sheets available to download for free from the website.
