Volunteering Opportunities

We have a number of ongoing volunteer opportunities available within the Family & Children's Services Unit at Council. To find out more information about each opportunity, including recruitment dates, phone Anna Jones on 9433 3165.

If you have any volunteering opportunities related to family and children's services within your organisation, feel free to email us the details for inclusion on our website.

In-Home Family Mentoring Program
This program supports new mums and parents with children under the age of six living in Nillumbik, who are experiencing difficulties. Funded by Nillumbik Best Start the program provides one-on-one parenting support for two to three hours a week, for up to twelve months, to assist parents to become more confident in their parenting role, connect with other parents and into their local community networks. To volunteer with the program you need to be a parent or grandparent yourself, or have experience with parenting, attend the four day volunteer training, and have a Working with Children Check (this is provided free of charge).

Post Natal Depression Group Volunteer
The post natal depression group is a support group for mothers who are feeling depressed, overwhelmed and alone. The volunteer works with the group facilitator to support the mothers and supervise activities for the children. Must have a Working with Children Check and police check and attend an orientation to volunteering with Council.

Pram Walking Volunteer Leader
We operate three pram walking groups: Hurstbridge (Tuesdays), Diamond Creek (Thursdays) and Eltham (Fridays). The Volunteer Leader takes new registrations, registers attendees for the walk and walks with the group on a weekly or fortnightly basis.

The Victorian Volunteer Portal

Victoria’s Volunteering Portal is an online community and information resource for Victorian volunteers and volunteering organisations. The portal allows visitors to the site to conveniently search for organisations that match their preferences and allows organisations to get in touch with individuals who have enquired about their available volunteer opportunities.
