Maternal and child health centres

The Nillumbik Community Health Service provides the maternal and child health service under contract to Nillumbik Shire Council. There is no charge for this service.

After the birth of your child a maternal and child health nurse will visit your home within seven days after receiving notification from the hospital about your birth. The nurse will discuss your child's health and development, offer advice and support, provide information and make referrals to other services if necessary. All nurses have qualifications in midwifery and family and child health.

A zoning system operates for the distribution of birth notifications from hospitals which identifies the centre closest to your home. However, after the initial home visit, you may attend the centre of your choice. All child records are stored electronically and can be accessed from any centre.

Telephone support is available 24 hours through The Department of Human Services 24-hour maternal and child health phone line. Call 13 22 29.
